The free/open source software and design communities; the hackerspaces and the do-it-yourself enthusiasts; the movements for an independent Internet; the initiatives for free/communal wifi and open access to knowledge; the resilient/permaculture communities… What do all these have in common? Are they unrelated cases or coincidences? Or could they be seen as seeds of a new civilization full of contradictions and chances for renaissance and change? This documentary — a low-budget yet sublime production — narrates the story of several Greek-based, knowledge-oriented communities that are building the world they want, within the confines of the fragmented world they want to transcend.

Intellectual commons proliferate exactly at the epicentre of our knowledge – based economies, where capitalist modes of production are supposed to reach their climax of competitiveness and efficiency.  This new mode of production, management and distribution of intellectual resources emerges in the ruptures and contradictions of capitalist intellectual production / distribution, in all cases that people enter into direct action and form self – governed communities of collaborative innovation, in order to produce and manage resources free for access to all.

Οι κοινότητες του ελεύθερου λογισμικού•  οι κολλεκτίβες των “hackerspace” και οι ομάδες “κάντο-μόνος-σου”• οι εναλλακτικές οικοκοινότητες• τα κινήματα για ελεύθερη πρόσβαση στη γνώση, για ελεύθερο διαδίκτυο αλλά για δημιουργική ανακατάληψη του δημοσίου χώρου… Τι κοινό έχουν όλα τα παραπάνω; Αποτελούν συμπτώσεις, τυχαίες, μη συσχετιζόμενες περιπτώσεις ή είναι εκφράσεις και εκφάνσεις ενός νέου πολιτισμού με όλες του τις αντιφατικότητες και τις ευκαιρίες για αναγέννηση; Σημάδια ενός αναδυόμενου κόσμου που δημιουργεί και δημιουργείται, μέσα στις παρυφές του παλιού, από νέες ετερόκλητες υποκειμενικότητες και σαν τη λάβα μέσα από τις ρωγμές προσπαθεί να δημιουργήσει νέα γη; Το ντοκιμαντέρ “Η Γνώση ως Κοινό Αγαθό”, μας αφηγείται πως, στην Ελλάδα της κρίσης, κοινότητες γνώσης δημιουργούν τον κόσμο που θέλουν, μέσα στον κόσμο που θέλουν να ξεπεράσουν.

Τα διανοητικά κοινά ευδοκιμούν ακριβώς στο επίκεντρο της γνωσιακής οικονομίας, όπου οι καπιταλιστικοί τρόποι παραγωγής υποτίθεται ότι φτάνουν στο αποκορύφωμα της ανταγωνιστικότητας και της αποτελεσματικότητάς τους. Αυτός ο νέος τρόπος παραγωγής, διαχείρισης και διανομής πνευματικών πόρων αναδύεται στα διάκενα και στις αντιφάσεις της καπιταλιστικής διανοητικής παραγωγής / διανομής, όταν οι άνθρωποι προχωρούν στην άμεση δράση και συγκροτούν αυτο – κυβερνούμενες κοινότητες συνεργατικής καινοτομίας, με σκοπό την παραγωγή και διαχείριση πόρων ελεύθερα προσβάσιμων σε όλους.

We live in a time that has seen deep changes in the way societies produce perceptibly, at least in the West. It is as result of dramatic changes that have taken place in the production field. We live in an era of highly-networked society and it was the advent of internet, perhaps, the key element of this change. Fundamental labour practices have been altered. For the first time, we are witnessing groups of producers having the chance to meet up outside the traditional frameworks – like that of a corporation, or state organisation -People that take initiatives to form groups in order to produce goods that belong in the commons sphere.

Από την δεκαετία του 80 παρατηρήθηκαν στις προηγμένες βιομηχανικά χώρες της δύσης κυρίως, σημάδια κάποιων μετασχηματισμών στο χώρο των παραγωγικών διαδικασιών. Στη συνέχεια από τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 90 με την μαζική διάδοση του διαδικτύου και των ψηφιακών δικτύων γενικότερα, οι μετασχηματισμοί αυτοί πήραν την μορφή ριζοσπαστικών αλλαγών που στις μέρες μας πια εξαπλώνονται σχεδόν παντού με ραγδαίο τρόπο.

Παρατηρούμε για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορική περίοδο που ξεκινά από την πρώτη βιομηχανική επανάσταση, το φαινόμενο οργάνωσης της παραγωγής και ιδιαίτερα της παραγωγής γνώσης, έξω από τα παραδοσιακά πλαίσια που ίσχυαν ως τώρα.

Οι άνθρωποι σχηματίζουν αυτοβούλως ομάδες μα σκοπό την παραγωγή κοινής γνώσης αλλά και κοινών υλικών αγαθών, έξω από τις κάθετες δομές ιεράρχησης των εταιριών ή των πλαισίων που θέτουν τα κράτη. Αυτό συμπίπτει με μια γενικότερη μετάβαση που συμβαίνει κυρίως στις ανεπτυγμένες χώρες της δύσης, από την βιομηχανική κοινωνία στην οικονομία της γνώσης.
